Fincantieri begins construction of Silversea’s new ultra-luxury cruise ship

AI Summary

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has officially started construction of Silversea Cruises’ new ultra-luxury cruise ship, following a keel laying ceremony held at its shipyard in Sestri Ponente.

The new 40,700gt vessel, Silver Muse, is expected to debut in the spring of 2017. With this new-build, Silversea’s fleet will be expanded to nine ships.

The 201m-long vessel will be capable of accommodating 596 guests.

Silversea Cruises chairman Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio said: “The concept of this ship descends from our vision of luxury, that is a very personal element for a guest, and that’s why Silversea has always offered a tailored cruise experience, shaped around the preferences of each different person.

“Silver Muse will make a further step ahead in this direction, offering our guests a simply-divine experience.”

In 2009, Fincantieri delivered the sixth ship in the Silversea Cruises fleet, Silver Spirit.

Silver Spirit features 270 ocean-view cabins with a maximum capacity of 540 passengers.

“Silversea has shown remarkable dynamism and ability to achieve important results in this market.”

Fincantieri CEO Giuseppe Bono said: “Silversea has shown remarkable dynamism and ability to achieve important results in this market.

“This project offers us the opportunity to develop creative solutions and set new standards for shipbuilding in the ultra-luxury segment, in which Fincantieri has won every new order on the market in the recent past.”

Recently, Fincantieri started construction of the third Royal Princess-class cruise ship for Carnival’s Princess Cruises.

The new 145,000gt vessel is the first ship to be designed and built specifically for the Chinese market, and is expected to be operational in 2017.
