The Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority has officially inaugurated an integrated logistics corridor designed to enhance trade connectivity between the Emirate of Sharjah and the Sultanate of Oman. This strategic development, coordinated in collaboration with Oman Customs, represents a significant advancement in the regional logistics infrastructure, aiming to provide businesses with more flexible and efficient transport solutions.
The integrated logistics corridor became fully operational on May 14, 2026, after relevant authorities finalized all necessary technical and coordination procedures. The launch was marked by the successful dispatch of the first shipments originating from Port Khalid in Sharjah, which were transported to Sohar Port via the Khatmat Malaha border crossing in Kalba.
While Sohar Port serves as the primary gateway due to its strategic proximity to the UAE, the initiative also encompasses connectivity with the ports of Duqm and Salalah. By linking these vital Omani maritime hubs with Sharjah’s land border crossings specifically Khatmat Malaha and Al Madam the authority has created a comprehensive network that supports consistent, two-way cargo movement.
The primary objective of this integrated logistics corridor is to improve the efficiency and sustainability of regional supply chains. The project provides local manufacturers, trading companies, and businesses operating within free zones with expanded access to both regional and global markets.
To ensure maximum operational speed, the authority has introduced a streamlined package of customs and operational procedures. Direct customs clearance at Sharjah border crossings eliminates the need for redundant transport stages. Fast-tracking processing for shipments and the pre-processing of essential documentation helps reduce delays. Furthermore, direct transport under customs supervision will help reducing transit times and operational costs.
This initiative is a core component of Sharjah’s broader, long-term logistics ecosystem, which emphasizes the complementarity of maritime infrastructure across both the eastern and western coasts. Khorfakkan Port continues to function as a central regional maritime hub, and this new land-based corridor serves as a seamless extension that elevates overall cargo handling efficiency.
A collaborative working group has been formed by Oman and UAE to plan activities and create systems for exchanging data. By following global best practices in safety, security, and risk management, this improves customs efficiency and guarantees high levels of flow and dependability.
The opening of the corridor, according to the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, demonstrates a growing degree of strategic integration between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates and reaffirms the strong economic ties between the two countries, contributing to the development of an integrated logistics system that keeps trade flowing smoothly and effectively.
The Authority further stated that by offering flexible choices that speed up trade flows and allow companies to adjust to shifting operational conditions, the corridor is a major step towards solidifying Sharjah’s status as a leading regional logistics hub.
