The UAE announced plans to improve federal roads over the next 10 years, which will cost about AED 5 billion.
The plan was unveiled by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), and it intends to address the demands of the various regions of the UAE, maintaining pace with the rapid expansion observed by the country, boosting the quality of life, and developing infrastructure.
According to WAM, the 10-year plan will entail the creation of an arterial road network connecting the various regions of the nation. This was confirmed by the undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for the Infrastructure and Transport Sector, Eng. Hassan Mohammed Juma Al Mansouri.
Al Mansouri stated that the ministry is presently overseeing projects worth AED 500 million that aim to improve and increase the effectiveness of federal highways.
Through the construction and growth of the existing federal road system of bridges, tunnels, and road networks, Al Mansouri stated that the country seeks to be a world leader in reaching the maximum performance of the road and transport system.
According to WAM, the different emirates of the country are in compliance with the highest international requirements to ensure safe, easy, and sustainable mobility in collaboration and coordination with partners in the country’s transportation and roads, in addition to equipping them with all the required services to assist electric vehicles and the smart transportation system, particularly for self-driving cars.
Road projects, according to Al Mansouri, are one of the pillars of the state’s new growth model, which will drive all other axes of environmental sustainability over the course of the next fifty years.
According to Al Mansouri, improving road flow and capacity rates is among the UAE’s top goals in order to keep pace with the swift development of diverse industries. He also noted that ensuring resident and citizen satisfaction through the plan will always come foremost.
