Jenoptik secures German certification for TraffiStar S350 laser scanner system

Optical electronics company Jenoptik has received approval from Germany’s Physical Technical Institute (PTB) in Brunswick to introduce its TraffiStar S350 laser scanner system to the German market.

The new service will provide police and local authorities in Germany with a stationary speed measuring system that uses contact-free or non-invasive sensors to secure vehicle speed.

The new system eliminates the need for piezo-electric sensors or induction loops, which are built into the road surface.

Jenoptik CEO Michael Mertin said: “With the approval of the laser scanner system Jenoptik is the only manufacturer in the world offering all-important sensor technologies for traffic monitoring.

“This allows Jenoptik to offer its customers in Germany and the rest of the world customized technologically flexible solutions.”

Jenoptik’s TraffiStar S350 laser scanner system can be installed in road bends, unclear or obscured road situations and in tunnels, with an option to set different photo trigger limits for each lane and each vehicle class.

It offers error-free matching of the calculated speed and the relevant vehicle by marking the measured vehicle in the image. This marking is a frame overlaid on the image with the correct perspective.

The system also comprises a field showing the measured speed, providing a clear and view of the association between the recorded vehicle, the marking frame and the speed value.

The TraffiStar S350 laser scanner system is integrated into the TraffiTower 2.0 design housing specially made for this purpose, allowing the system to be used in a variety of applications.

Based on the requirements, it can be used to monitor both driving directions and several lanes simultaneously, either from the side of the road or from the center divider.
