Construction has started on the first phase of a new 15.7km mass rapid transit line to downtown Jakarta from the southern neighbourhood of Lebak Bulus.
The first phase involves two consortiums of local and Japanese companies constructing six underground and seven elevated stations, estimated to cost $US1.5bn. It is hoped to finish the project in 2016.
