Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation and Railpool, a leading rail vehicle leasing company in Europe, have signed an agreement for 20 BOMBARDIER TRAXX MS locomotives. The abbreviation MS stands for Multi-System: These new locomotives can operate under all European catenaries, in twelve different countries. The locomotives for Railpool are determined for service in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium. Delivery is planned from May 2018 to December 2019. This latest order increases Railpool’s fleet of TRAXX locomotives to 189.

Thorsten Priebe, COO, Railpool, said: “Our first TRAXX locomotive was delivered in 2009 – since then we made very good experience regarding performance, traction effort, efficiency and reliability with our TRAXX fleet. Based on this experience, we want to offer these additional locomotives for the most important European freight corridors which connect several of the biggest European harbors.”

Mike Niebling, Director Sales, Locomotives, Bombardier Transportation, added: “We are pleased that we can continue the very successful collaboration with Railpool regarding these 20 additional locomotives. Railpool as our second largest locomotive customer has contributed significantly to the development of our TRAXX locomotives in the last nine years.”

The TRAXX MS locomotive has now been sold nearly 450 times. It is used for freight and passenger traffic in national and international services. The locomotive is designed for rail networks with the main European supply voltages 15 kV and 25 kV AC and 1,5 and 3 kV DC – which mains that it stands for European cross-border traffic and interoperability. As a platform product, it provides the operator with the advantages of long term spare parts availability, commonality savings in a mixed fleet of TRAXX locomotives and high residual value over the locomotive’s lifetime.

Bombardier will assemble the 20 TRAXX locomotives at their Kassel, Germany, site, the carbodies at its Wroclaw site in Poland, and the bogies in Siegen, Germany.

About RailpoolRail

With over 170 electric locomotives already in operation (and investments of approx. 730 million euros), Railpool is one of the largest traction providers in Europe.
