Leading airline associations worldwide have united to advocate for governments to ensure the global alignment of regulations pertaining to airport slots. This unified effort aims to protect the consistent, equitable, and transparent allocation of slots according to the Worldwide Airport Slot Guidelines (WASG). Harmonizing slot regulations is essential for maintaining stability and promoting growth in the aviation industry.

In a joint statement, prominent associations emphasized the benefits of the WASG, highlighting its crucial role in driving connectivity, competition, and consumer options in air travel. The call for a global alignment is backed by AFRAA, A4A, AIRE, AACO, AAPA, European Express Association, ERAA, IATA, and ALTA. These associations collectively represent airlines across regions, emphasizing the importance of standardized slot regulations.

Consistent global standards are essential for the air transport industry. The Worldwide Airport Slot Guidelines have played a vital but often unrecognized role in the air transport system. Thanks to the WASG, travelers, businesses, and economies worldwide have benefited from continuous growth in air connectivity, robust competition, and diverse route options, while also ensuring optimal utilization of limited airport capacity. Governments should align their slot rules with this global standard to gain advantages such as improved air connectivity, efficiency, and greater consumer choice.

The fragmentation of slot regulations jeopardizes airline schedules and undermines progress in global connectivity, efficiency, and choice in the aviation sector. As the number of slot-regulated airports grows, it is increasingly crucial for governments to recognize the importance of aligning slot regulations with the WASG. The WASG has successfully maintained stability and consistency in slot management for decades, providing reliable schedules for consumers and enabling expansion into new markets. Airlines and airports have benefited from improved utilization of limited airport capacity. The joint statement highlighted the long-standing success of the WASG and its positive impact on the industry.

Thanks to the Worldwide Airport Slot Guidelines, travelers, businesses, and economies have enjoyed continuous growth in air connectivity, strong competition, and diverse route options. Governments should align their slot rules with this global standard to benefit from improved air connectivity, efficiency, and consumer choice.

The WASG has been recently revised to boost competition, improve access to congested airports, and optimize slot performance monitoring. It is essential for national and regional slot regulations to align with the WASG in order to immediately benefit the aviation sector and travelers from these improvements and future advancements. The associations also encouraged governments to collaborate with the Worldwide Airport Slot Board, comprising experts from airlines, airports, and slot coordinators, to ensure effective cooperation and the integration of expert revisions into the WASG.
