Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation Dr. Sameh El-Hefny held talks with Wilmer Omar Barrientos, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Cairo, and his accompanying delegation at the Ministry’s headquarters, with discussions centered on prospects for cooperation in civil aviation and several files and topics of mutual interest. The meeting was attended by Eng. Amr Nagaty, Permanent Undersecretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and Ms. Lamia Sami, Director General of International Relations and Agreements at the Ministry. The discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening aviation cooperation between Egypt and Venezuela and advancing areas of mutual interest within the civil aviation sector.
At the outset, Dr. El-Hefny welcomed the Venezuelan Ambassador and his delegation while conveying his sincere condolences to the government and people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for the victims of the earthquake that struck the country.
Air Transport Agreement to Support Connectivity
A central part of the aviation cooperation discussions was the latest progress concerning the draft air transport agreement between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The two sides reviewed the necessary procedures required to complete the agreement, which is intended to create a regulatory framework supporting the development of air traffic while improving aviation cooperation and air connectivity between the two countries.
Dr. Sameh El-Hefny affirmed the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s commitment to providing all necessary support and coordination to Venezuelan airlines, in accordance with applicable rules and procedures. The objective is to facilitate their operations, create greater opportunities for flights between the two countries, and strengthen travel, tourism, and trade.
Venezuela Seeks Stronger Tourism and Air Transport Links
Ambassador Wilmer Omar Barrientos expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm welcome and underscored the importance of relations between Egypt and Venezuela, along with his country’s keenness to continue developing those relations across various fields. He also noted that Venezuela is focusing on revitalizing tourism and strengthening its ties with Middle Eastern countries in the coming period.
In addition, the Venezuelan Ambassador explained that Venezuela places great importance on developing air transport, a priority that could support increased travel while creating new avenues for cooperation and air connectivity with Egypt.
