Egyptian Minister of Transport Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir held talks with David Vités, the Hungarian Minister of Transport and Investment, at the Ministry of Transport headquarters in the New Administrative Capital on 11th August 2026. The meeting was held during the Hungarian Minister’s visit to Egypt and focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries across different transportation sectors.
Dr. Rita Viktorija Herncácer, the Hungarian Ambassador to Egypt, Eng. Wagdy Radwan, Deputy Minister of Transport for Electric Traction and Railways, and several senior officials from the Ministry of Transport also attended the discussions. Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir highlighted the depth of Egyptian-Hungarian relations and expressed the desire to expand joint efforts across transport sectors, with particular emphasis on railways. The discussions therefore placed transport sector cooperation between Egypt and Hungary at the centre of the meeting.
Railway Cooperation and Exchange of Expertise
David Vités praised the strong relationship between Egypt and Hungary, while also highlighting the significant development Egypt is witnessing, particularly in the transport sector. He confirmed Hungary’s interest in exchanging expertise and expressed admiration for the New Administrative Capital, describing it as magnificent.
He also spoke positively about his visit to Ramses Railway Station, where he observed Hungarian trains operating on the railway network and visited the Railway Museum. The Hungarian Minister commended Egypt’s modern transport system, including the LRT light rail, monorail, and high-speed electric train.
Discussions also covered developments in existing railway cooperation and possible ways to expand Egyptian-Hungarian collaboration across other transport areas. Both sides considered the exchange of expertise and the use of capabilities and experience available in the two countries to support mass transit, railway, and green transport systems, further advancing transport sector cooperation.
New Administrative Capital Transport Integration
After the talks, Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir and his Hungarian counterpart boarded buses provided by the “Akta Mass Transit” company at the Ministry of Transport headquarters in the New Administrative Capital and travelled to the Government District station of the East Nile Monorail. Lieutenant General El-Wazir described the New Administrative Capital as a clear example of integration between modern urban planning and an advanced transportation system.
He explained that a modern and integrated transportation system has been established to serve the capital and link it with different areas within the New Administrative Capital. During the visit, he reviewed the transport modes serving the capital, including the Light Rail Transit (LRT), the East Nile Monorail, Akta buses, and the Capital Taxi. He also explained the mechanisms used to integrate and connect these modern mass transit systems, supporting convenient movement for citizens between the capital and surrounding areas.
The two ministers subsequently inspected the Government District station of the East Nile Monorail and discussed its importance in serving visitors to ministries and government agencies, as well as its role as a modern and safe transportation link between different districts.
East Nile Monorail Tour Highlights Connectivity
The East Nile Monorail’s Role in Connecting the New Administrative Capital to Greater Cairo was also highlighted during the visit. The new line in Nasr City connects with the third metro line, which in turn connects with the West Nile monorail, creating a fast, safe, and environmentally friendly transportation option for residents of the urban and development areas served by the network.
The new line will also connect with the stadium station. Following the inspection, the Hungarian Minister of Transport, accompanied by Engineer Wagdy Radwan, Deputy Minister of Transport for Electric Traction and Railways, travelled on the East Nile Monorail from the Government District Station to the Al-Fattah Al-Aleem Mosque Station.
He was briefed there on the system’s components and its importance in supporting and facilitating transportation within the New Administrative Capital. Mr. David Vitzi, the Hungarian Minister of Transport and Investment, expressed his delight at visiting the New Capital and praised the major urban and civilizational projects he saw, particularly the modern transportation system being developed to serve the capital and connect it with various regions.
He said the significant development witnessed in Egypt’s transportation system reflects the Egyptian state’s efforts to develop transportation infrastructure according to the latest international standards. He also praised the modern means of transport and the integrated system connecting different areas of the capital that he observed during the tour. The visit reinforced the focus on transport sector cooperation and the exchange of expertise between Egypt and Hungary.
