Liebherr-Transportation Systems has successfully completed the commissioning of its new hydraulic level control systems for the new 7000 series light rail vehicles of Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), built and supplied by CRRC. The levelling system was commissioned at the CRRC Qingdao site on a near-series prototype. Liebherr-Transportation’s development team thus made a significant contribution to the successful and on-time delivery of the vehicles to CRRC’s customer.

Level control systems for the first ten carriages have already been delivered to CRRC for final assembly. The vehicles must prove their flawless function and reliability in a one-year test phase in Chicago before series delivery starts at the end of 2020.

The level control system is able to adapt the level of the vehicle floor to exactly that of the respective platform: When the car arrives at the station, sensors detect the platform height. Based on this height measurement, four hydraulic actuators are activated per carriage, which, with six tons each, pull steel springs together to lower the vehicle until the exit edge matches exactly the height of the platform.

Liebherr-Transportation Systems – Renowned Manufacturer of Railway Technology

Liebherr-Transportation Systems provides heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC systems) for driver’s cabs and the passenger area, various cooling systems for e-mobility applications without overhead lines, thermal management systems for electronics as well as hydraulic drive systems, bogie steering systems, dampers and equipment for hydraulic load balancing for rail vehicles or all kinds. Liebherr has many years of experience in the development, manufacture and maintenance of these systems and offers support across the entire product life cycle.

The company invests continuously in research and development to supply new generations of different transport system solutions for its customers.

Liebherr-Transportation Systems operates three production sites in Korneuburg (Austria), Marica (Bulgaria) and Zhuji (China). In addition to its own sales and service center, the transportation systems product branch uses the advanced and unique technologies as well as the development and service facilities of the Liebherr Group round the world. Thanks to the company’s global presence, Liebherr-Transportation Systems is there for its customers – anytime, anywhere.
