Siemens Mobility Limited will be showcasing a model of its latest high-speed train, the Velaro Novo, at Railtex 2019. This is the second time the Velaro Novo Model will be exhibited in the UK.

The Velaro Novo is a highly cost and energy-efficient train which can operate at speeds of up to 360 km/h and guarantees availability. It substantially reduces investment and maintenance costs and uses 30% less energy than previous Velaro generations – equating to savings of 1,375 tons of CO2 emissions a year.

The new high-speed model also enhances passenger experience, with increased capacity and comfort thanks to 10% more available space.

Its lightweight body shell is based on the empty tube concept, making it a unique and future-proof innovation. This means that there are no permanent installations inside the car and the interior can be customised according to an operator’s requirements.

It is the second time Siemens Mobility has displayed the Velaro Novo train design in the UK, after initially unveiling it on the concourse of Birmingham New Street station in September 2018.

Visitors to Siemens Mobility’s stand will also learn more about the company’s high-speed trains already in operation across the world. The Velaro Platform is a family of some of the world’s fastest high-speed trains operating in countries such as Spain, china, Russia Germany and the UK, where its Eurostar e320 fleet runs at 320km/h.

William Wilson, Managing Director for Rolling Stock at Siemens Mobility Limited, said: “The Velaro Novo truly represents the future of high-speed. We have used proven technology to create an innovative concept, which sets new standards for mobility and offers operators maximum flexibility and reliability.”

“High-speed holds transformative potential for connecting urban areas in the UK and Siemens Mobility wants to play its part in creating the intelligent infrastructure that accommodates it.”

“We look forward to meeting with other rail industry leaders at Railtex to discuss how we can combine our global high-speed experience with our legacy in the UK rail market to accelerate the UK’s high-speed ambitions.”

Railtex 2019 will be held at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham from 14 – 16 May. Siemens will be located at stands D51 and E51.
