Where will shipping finance come from in the coming years? Which ship-owning business models would secure better access to capital?

Capital has always been critical to the shipping industry. Over the past few years many shipowners have felt excluded from the sources of capital available; and for shipowners with access to capital, terms have been stricter and costs are higher.

Shipping is an industry of doers. It’s an industry of flexible and adaptable shipowners and managers who have proven, time and again, their agility to master changing market dynamics and complicated new variables in technology, regulation and, let’s face it, politics.

OrganizedbySlide2Open Communications, in association with Karatz as Marine Advisors & Co., the Slide2Open Shipping Finance 2019 conference, will take place on Thursday 24 January 2019, at Divani Caravel Hotel, in Athens, under the Auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy and the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping.

Ruthie Amaru, Chief Market place Officer at Freightos, is the keynotes peaker. Freightos is the online reight market placewhich is working on disrupting the freight industry. It has more data on global shipping than anyone else, and Ruthie Amaru can offer some valuable insights on the industry and the interplay between retail, data, and events such as Amazon Prime Day (APD). In fact, Amazon sellers are Freightos’ most significant customer. Ruthie Amaru will also explain how Freight os managed to raise large sums of money, well into the nine digits,in overall backing.

With the participation of 40 world class speakers from Greece and also from countries such as Japan, Mexico and more, including major Shipowners, the Slide2Open Shipping Finance 2019 aims at producing tangible results, while providing delegates with valuable financial and commercial insight into activities, offerings, best practices and trends.

Yuri Bender of the Financial Times (editor-in-chief at PWM) is the conference’s moderator. The senior reporter of the Wall Street Journal, Cost as Paris will lead the spotlight sessions during which he will interview live prominent Shipowners to be named shortly.

The conference’s last session is titled Shipowners’ time and leaves it to the shipowners to convey the final conclusions of the day in the context of two panel discussions. The first panel is titled Where there is a will there is a way, while the second belongs to the new wave, the next generation in Shipping represented by Phrixos Papachristides, Alexander C. Hadjipater as, Isabelle Rickmers and moderated by Danae Bezantakou.

Emmanouel A. Vordonis (f. president and executive director of Thenamaris Ship Management) will synopsize the day, talking about the conference’s theme: In market fundamentals we trust. The traditional values and romanticism in shipping.

The Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Mr. FotisKouvelis and the MP, f. President and Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy Coordinator of New Democracy Party, Mr. Ioannis Plakiotak is will address the audience with Greeting Speeches.
