Use of IoT in Making Smart Parking Systems

The most common traffic issue faced in urban cities these days is that there is an insufficient parking space in heavily populated areas. Besides, the mechanism and manpower are not capable enough to efficiently use the existing space for parking. And finally, the design of the parking lot isn’t user-friendly enough and adds to chaos and confusion.

However, parking systems have indeed come a long way. One of the most incredible developments and innovations which have altered the way traffic management works in any country is the parking system. An innovative and well thought-off parking system can take-off a lot of burden from an otherwise congested and complex traffic scenario. These days, sensors embedded on the ground or cameras mounted on the poles or buildings determine whether the parking space is available or not. When innovative systems are in place, one can have a clear picture of motorists parking habits which are pretty handy for stakeholders especially the authorities who can cross-check for the parking tickets. Additionally, with newer innovations in parking systems, even the emissions are reduced since one does not have to circle around to find a parking slot.

Smart Parking Solution

One of the most talked-about innovations that have come up in the parking space is Smart Parking Solutions. These are IoT run devices that give out a signal on the availability of parking slots. These devices are fixed on each parking slot from where the signals are directly sent to the nearby receiver which in turn gives continuous updates on the availability of all the slots. The data then gets sent to the parking guidance system and apps available on the mobile platform. Not only that, but the users of these apps also get to know the size of the parking space and also nearby available public transportation.

Parking Apps

Developers of parking apps offer a wide range of solutions that are in sync with the data coming from the guidance systems. Bespoke software enables managers to see and book parking spaces in a parking lot or on the street.  One can also purchase a parking ticket or even get a parking subscription through apps making the overall experience user-friendly and quick.

Finding the right partner is the key

There are many startups as well as established companies that are devising new methods to make the existing parking systems much better. They have all understood that the key to a perfect parking system revolves around efficient usage of IoT, Big Data, and Cloud technology. It becomes all the more important for the authorities to ensure that they collaborate with the right partners who offer the most innovative technologies that are available to build a hassle-free and innovative parking space. Parking data, by itself, yields a very limited set of information for the authorities but when this data gets clubbed with the data from other agencies, a complete picture of driver behavior emerges that helps in the further development of technology.
