East Midlands Railway (EMR) is set to invest over £400,000 in upgrading and renovating 12 stations on the Barton-on-Humber line. The work is aimed at improving the passenger experience and will include the installation of passenger electronic help points.

The new help points will allow passengers to contact EMR’s customer service centre of the emergency services for assistance when required.
New benches and refurbished signage and platform information are also set to be fitted as part of the upgrade.

Replacement fencing is also going to be installed at Thornton Abbey and New Clee railway stations. EMR recognised the importance of upgrading the passenger experience at its stations across the East Midlands.

Lisa Angus, Transition and Projects Director at EMR said: “We understand how important these stations are to the rural communities they serve. “We hope these improvements will help to enhance the experience for customers who use the line for commuting, to visit loved ones or enjoy the lines scenic tourist locations.

“The improvements are real boost to the line. [The improvements] will provide better signage, seating and information at every station on the route.”

The Barton Cleethorpes Community Rail Partnership (BCCRP) commented on the need for improvement projects at stations. Gill Simpson, Community Rail Officer at BCCRP said: “Station improvements are always a high priority for the BCCRP. “Every year our members campaign for large scale improvements and fund smaller projects, so this news from EMR is most welcome.

“With the high growth of employment opportunities in North and North East Lincolnshire, this is just another excellent reason for people to come to live and work here. “The improvements also enhance the station experience for existing residents and casual visitors.” EMR are expecting to complete the work on the £400,000 renovation projects by late Spring.
