Turkmenistan and the European Union (EU) reviewed the implementation of the Connectivity Agenda Platform as part of efforts to advance the Trans-Caspian corridor, according to a statement issued by the Turkmen Embassy in Belgium. The discussions took place during a joint meeting involving Central Asian ambassadors and senior European Union officials in Brussels, where participants assessed the role of the Connectivity Agenda Platform in strengthening transport links between Central Asia and Europe.
During consultations held at the European External Action Service (EEAS), participants welcomed the successful launch of the platform on 23rd June 2026, emphasizing its importance in improving regional connectivity.
Ambassador of Turkmenistan Sapar Palvanov stated that the Connectivity Agenda Platform represents an exceptionally effective mechanism for advancing regional transport cooperation. He underlined the importance of making full use of the platform to improve coordination while reinforcing the resilience of transit corridors. He also noted that relations between Central Asia and the European Union have entered a practical and results-oriented stage that should now produce concrete infrastructure outcomes.
Infrastructure, Digitalization and Investment Priorities Discussed
According to the embassy’s statement, “The meeting also explored opportunities to expand cooperation with European financial institutions, implement new infrastructure projects, deepen collaboration in the field of critical raw materials, promote digital transformation, strengthen energy cooperation, and further develop partnerships in education, counter-terrorism and other areas of shared interest.”
As part of the Connectivity Agenda Platform, participants also examined priorities including the rapid digitalization of transport procedures, modernization of customs systems, and the systematic removal of non-physical barriers affecting cross-border commerce. To reinforce these logistics initiatives, the European side reiterated its commitment to mobilizing investment through the Global Gateway agenda in cooperation with the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. These financing arrangements are expected to receive further alignment during the upcoming Global Gateway Forum in Brussels on 7th to 8th June, 2027.
Roadmap Supports Future EU-Turkmenistan Cooperation
The objectives of the Connectivity Agenda Platform were also presented as being consistent with wider efforts to strengthen the bilateral legal framework between the EU and Turkmenistan. European officials expressed their readiness to develop a joint roadmap aimed at deepening political dialogue and expanding economic cooperation with Ashgabat.
In addition, diplomatic delegations coordinated preparations for the Ministerial Meeting on Connectivity and Security scheduled for 16th November 2026, together with the Second EU-Central Asia Summit in 2027. Both meetings are expected to reinforce ongoing transport and security initiatives between the European Union and Central Asian partners.
