Siemens Mobility, along with consortium partners ST Engineering and BES Engineering Corporation, has been awarded a contract to deliver the signaling and communications for two new stations at Taoyuan Airport terminal three.

The airport currently services more than 45 million passengers and with the opening of terminal three capacity is expected to grow to up to 86 million passengers per year. The mass transit system will provide access to the terminal for both current and future passengers. Siemens Mobility will provide the signaling system, which will include CBTC that will allow for automated train operations (ATO). Two stations, with an option for a third, and 20 trains will be equipped. The first station will be commissioned in September 2022, the second is planned for in June 2024.

“CBTC offers mass transit systems the benefits of greater capacity, resulting in greater availability for passengers, improved passenger experience and enhanced safety. In addition, the technology simultaneously requires much less hardware employed along the line than with traditional systems, hence making the system more reliable and easier to maintain. This extension is the first step in bringing the entire airport line to operate with latest and most innovative CBTC technology, which will enable a more efficient travel experience in the future,” stated Michael Peter, CEO of Siemens Mobility.

ST Engineering’s Electronics sector will provide its smart rail electronics solutions including SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), Platform Screen Doors, Maintenance Management System as well as an integrated suite of communication systems. BES Engineering will provide the power supply system.

Siemens Mobility is also delivering Taoyuan City a fully automated metro, including the link to Taoyuan International Airport and the Green Line, which includes 27.8 kilometers with 21 stations. The system also operates with CBTC technology, maximizing throughput and capacity.
