Finavia to increase departure lobby capacity in Helsinki Airport

AI Summary

Finnish airport services provider Finavia is set to increase the capacity of departure lobby and improve terminal services at Helsinki Airport, in a move to serve 20 million passengers by 2020.

The improvements in the departure hall forms part of the company’s €900m development programme.

The first phase of the programme will be completed in summer 2014, when a new security checkpoint will be introduced in Terminal 2.

Finavia Helsinki Airport director Ville Haapasaari said: “The new line will increase the security check capacity by almost 40%.”

Finavia will open five new lines, resulting in a total of 18 lines for Terminal 2. The terminal will also get 12 new check-in machines and ten new bag drop machines, alongside a new additional security checkpoint on the third floor of the terminal.

The airport is expected to invest about €30m in the renovation of restaurant and shop services in 2014-16.

A shop area is expected to be developed near gates 34-35, and is scheduled to be launched in April.

Finavia has also inked an agreement with HMSHost, in a move to create new food concepts at Helsinki Airport based on both international and Finnish flavours.
