Norway-based Q-Free Group company Intelight has secured a contract from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) in the US, for the new statewide Traffic Signal Software Project, which will upgrade intersection management and control systems.
The deal will see Intelight deliver advanced traffic signal management and control software, as well as hardware improvements for the state’s signalised intersections at up to 9,500 locations.
The project will use some of the latest advanced transportation controller (ATC) technology available in the US, including the company’s MaxTime Signal Control software.
“This is a showcase project for Intelight, incorporating Intelight’s leading edge technology from the local intersections through a series of networked ITS Management Centers to a statewide solution.”
The company’s advanced transportation management system (ATMS) software, MaxView statewide, will also be deployed as part of the project.
This software will allow the state, city and county transportation agencies within Georgia to standardise around the same local controller and system control software, and be network linked across jurisdictional boundaries statewide.
As part of this contract, the GDOT is investing in some of the most advanced technology available in the North American traffic signal control market, committing their support for open hardware and software standards.
The GDOT also intends to use their new partnership with Intelight to further develop and improve the company’s innovative platform.
The first purchase orders under the new project are expected during the fourth quarter of this year, totalling about $2.5m.
