StormGeo acquires Applied Weather Technology of California

AI Summary

Norway-based weather and asset risk management provider StormGeo has acquired Applied Weather Technology (AWT) for an undisclosed amount.

With 11 offices in seven countries across the world, California-based AWT currently offers support with routing guidance and operational efficiency to more than 5,000 ships each day .

The acquisition of AWT will allow StormGeo to offer its services through 22 offices and over 320 employees from 14 countries across the world.

The combined entity will use tailored software and decision support systems to safeguard weather sensitive operations in the shipping and offshore, renewable energy, media and aviation industries.

StormGeo CEO Kent Zehetner said that following the acquisition, AWT CEO Haydn Jones will take responsibility as global head of the shipping business line within the combined group.

“We believe that our ability to combine global real-time weather data with continuous harvesting of transport and movement data from thousands of ships across the globe, will enable StormGeo to give each ship and all fleet operators a unique understanding of how they can efficiently navigate the globe, whilst at the same time securing maximum safety and sound operational economics,” Zehetner said.

StormGeo board director and DNV GL Group executive vice-president Bjørn Kj. Haugland said that through the acquisition of AWT, StormGeo will acquire supplementary competences, a broader infrastructure and more than 5,000 new vessels.
