Skoda unveils first 28T tram for Turkey’s Konya

AI Summary

Skoda Transportation has unveiled the first of the 60 modern bi-directional fully low-floor 28T trams designed for deployment in the Turkish city of Konya.

The 32.5m-long tram, which can accommodate 364 passengers, will have five sections and provides easy entry and exit for travellers. It will combine Skoda’s experience and quality with features used in suburban units, metros and other trams.

Skoda Transportation CEO Josef Bernard said that the company was able to produce the first tram half a year after signing the contract.

“It gives us confirmation that we can develop and produce advanced technology vehicles, which also meet all the latest standards, in a very short time,” Bernard added.

Project manager Václav Petr said that the company has redesigned the entire ceiling of the tram.

“Operating in severe climate conditions also increased the need for air conditioning, which is adapted to the changing climatic zone in Turkey,” Petr said.

Skoda Electric will supply propulsion systems, including inverters, auxiliary converters and traction motors.

Project chief engineer Jaroslav Kulhánek said that passengers can also enjoy the built-in Wi-Fi, interior lighting and several other settings in the tram.
