The global leader in transport and logistics, GEODIS, has announced the launch of the first cross-border trucking operation in the region to be powered by Neste MY Renewable Diesel™, thereby marking a prominent milestone in decarbonization when it comes to its regional road network.
The pilot goes on to feature a dedicated Euro-5 truck travelling from Singapore to the Thailand-Malaysia border through making use of renewable diesel supplied by Neste, which apparently is the leading producer of sustainable aviation fuel – SAF and renewable diesel in the world. Interion, which is a Singapore-based fuel solutions provider, is going to enable the fuel distribution as well as delivery for the pilot operations.
Renewable diesel, which is also called hydrotreated vegetable oil – HVO gets produced from 100% renewable raw materials like used cooking oil and also animal fat waste. The usage of the renewable diesel from Neste helps with almost a 90% reduction when it comes to greenhouse gas – GHG emissions as compared to making use of conventional diesel throughout the lifecycle of the fuel. A drop-in fuel, renewable diesel can be used within the current diesel engines without any sort of modifications and offers an immediate as well as scalable pathway so as to lower the transport GHG emissions throughout the operational fleets.
Conducted in joint collaboration along with Neste and Interion, the pilot is going to assess real-world fuel performance, feasibility in terms of the first cross-border trucking operations, supply chain dependencies, and also carbon-reduction results. Insights that are gained are going to help shape the wider adoption plans of GEODIS when it comes to renewable fuels throughout the Asia Pacific region.
According to the Regional Sustainability Director for GEODIS in Asia Pacific and the Middle East, Esther Cheong, they are indeed proud to embark on this first-ever ASEAN cross-border decarbonization trucking pilot, which is powered by renewable diesel. Shifting towards renewable fuels is indeed a critical part of their mission so as to build a much more sustainable supply chain for their customers as well as communities, and together with their partners, with the likes of Neste as well as Interion, they are proving the practical perks of renewable fuels and also setting the groundwork when it comes to the broader adoption throughout the region.
Vice President, Renewable Fuels Sales & Trading, EMEA & APAC for Neste, Mario Mifsud says that they are very pleased to go ahead and support GEODIS with their Neste MY Renewable Diesel, helping with immediate as well as meaningful GHG emissions reductions. He added that collaborations such as these go on to showcase how renewable fuels can very much lower the climate effect of road transportation across Southeast Asia.
