MSC Mediterranean Shipping Companys new service links Russia with China and South Korea

AI Summary

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has introduced Golden Horn to connect China and South Korea with the east coast of Russia.

The service will complement the company’s current intra-Asia network. The new weekly service will connect the largest container terminal in Vostochniy in eastern Russia with the largest container ports in China and South Korea.

The company said that its customers will benefit from one of the most important rail gateways to connect the Far East to Europe through Vladivostok.

The first sailing on the Golden Horn will be MSC Nora HX 034R, ETA Shanghai on 19 August. The port rotation will be Vladivostok – Vostochniy – Busan – Shanghai – Ningbo – Busan – Vladivostok.

Last month, MSC announced that it has increased its short-sea and intermodal offerings to serve the Italian cargo market. The shipping line provides the widest port coverage in Italy, which includes seven direct ports of call that are near the northern industrial area of the country.

In April, MSC introduced a Suspension of Transit (SOT) container shipping programme to meet the freight service demand after the Covid-19 pandemic.

It forms part of the company’s plans to protect the continuity of business and maintain the vital container carriage services. The SOT programme is mainly focused on the demand recovery for different goods from Asia.

In December 2019, MSC announced plans to start using biofuel in its vessels, calling in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The company’s decision to use biofuel is in line with its strategic approach to sustainability.
