Finland-based Metso has won an order from STX France to supply an advanced vessel-wide automation system that includes energy management solutions for cruise vessel, Oasis 3, which is currently under construction.
Being built by STX France in a shipyard in Saint Nazaire, Oasis 3 is the world’s largest cruise vessel and third in the Oasis class series of Royal Caribbean International.
Metso’s ship automation package covers machinery, air-conditioning and emergency shutdown systems.The system is very large and incorporates around 32,000 input and output signals.
Metso will deploy the energy management system in order to monitor the energy flow and machinery performance.
In addition to automation systems, Metso will also provide engineering, programming, factory testing, crew training and technical assistance during quay and sea trials, which is scheduled to begin in mid 2015.
The vessel is expected to be delivered in mid 2016, will have a total length of 362.15m and will weigh 227,700t.
The Oasis 3 will feature 16 passenger decks, including 2,700 staterooms and will accommodate 5,400 passengers in double occupancy.
Metso marine automation director John Weierud said the world’s largest cruise ship sets high requirements on the automation system, as it will control and monitor the electric power plant, air-conditioning and swimming pools, among other things, around the clock.
