Belarus and Kazakhstan are moving to strengthen rail freight transport cooperation after railway officials and business representatives from both countries met to discuss new opportunities for expanding cargo transportation and improving logistics connectivity. According to information released by the press center of Belarusian Railways, the discussions were held during a joint roundtable involving exporters, importers, railway operators, and logistics stakeholders. The event took place at the Belarusian Railways management office.
Representing Kazakhstan were senior executives from subsidiaries KTZ-Express and Kedentransservice, while the Belarusian delegation included leaders from relevant departments of the Belarusian railways management, the state enterprise Belintertrans, and TransRail-BCH. Around 40 leading enterprises from Belarus participated in the session, bringing together companies from the forestry, woodworking, food processing, and machinery manufacturing industries. Representatives of the Belarusian Association of International Forwarders, along with transport and logistics companies, also joined the rail freight transport cooperation discussions.
During the meeting, Head of Belarusian Railways Valery Verenich noted that the gathering creates opportunities to identify new growth points, establish additional transportation routes, and improve both logistics and tariff conditions for rail services. Participants reviewed the logistics and transport capabilities of Kazakhstan Railways for cargo transportation on the Belarus-Kazakhstan corridor and for transit operations through the territories of both countries. The parties also exchanged views on ongoing projects, examined modern transport-logistics solutions, and discussed proposals aimed at further strengthening rail freight transport cooperation and increasing freight traffic between Belarus and Kazakhstan.
A significant part of the discussions focused on ensuring the smooth and uninterrupted movement of Belarusian goods to Kazakhstan and onward to destinations in China and Central Asia through transit routes crossing Kazakhstan. Special attention was also given to transportation conducted through container train services. At the conclusion of the roundtable, the participants outlined additional measures designed to improve the effectiveness of joint initiatives and advance new areas of railway logistics collaboration. These efforts are intended to support the multi-vector export policy of Belarusian enterprises while further deepening rail freight transport cooperation between the two countries.
