Bombardier Transportation has secured a $308m contract from the Crosslinx Transit Solutions Maintenance General Partnership consortium, to provide 30 years of maintenance on Flexity Freedom light rail vehicles.
The trains will be operate on the new Toronto Eglinton Crosstown line in Canada.
Crosslinx will maintain the entire system on behalf of the winning consortium responsible for designing, financing, building and maintaining the 19km-long transit line.
The consortium includes Aecon, ACS Infrastructure Canada, EllisDon and SNC-Lavalin and each member is an equal partner in the group with a 25% stake in the alternative financing and procurement (AFP) contract.
The Crosstown light rail transit (LRT) project, which is under the authority of Metrolinx, is part of the C$5.3bn ($4.3bn) investment in integrated transportation and transit in the GTHA made by the Ontario government in 2010.

Metrolinx is province of Ontario’s regional transportation agency responsible for the coordination and integration of all modes of transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area (GTHA).
The procurement of the Crosstown’s integrated system is managed by Infrastructure Ontario, while Metrolinx will oversee detailed design and construction.

Apart from offering equipment maintenance, the company will also deliver its automated vehicle inspection (AVI) system and its Orbiflo advanced condition monitoring system to automatically inspect the vehicles and provide predictive maintenance capabilities.
Bombardier will deliver its Flexity Freedom light rail vehicles to Metrolinx through a separate manufacturing contract signed with the transit agency.
