Hitachi Rail has secured the signalling contract for the construction of NS3A and NS6 MRT stations on Singapore’s North-South Line (NSL), marking another step in the expansion of one of the world’s most advanced urban rail networks. The award also strengthens Hitachi Rail’s long-standing partnership with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and its involvement in Singapore’s ongoing rail development.
Under the signalling contract, Hitachi Rail will undertake the signalling works needed to bring the two new stations into the existing operational railway. The project will be carried out by the company’s Singapore-based team, drawing on its capabilities in system integration, testing and commissioning. The objective is to introduce the new infrastructure while maintaining high standards of operational performance and service reliability.
SELTRAC™ CBTC Technology to Support Network Integration
The signalling works will use Hitachi Rail’s SELTRAC™ Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology, a signalling solution that has been deployed across major metro networks in cities including New York, London, Hong Kong and Singapore. NS3A will serve as an infill station on the existing NSL, while NS6 is planned as a future interchange with the Downtown Line 2 extension.
Both signalling solutions will be incorporated into the current system while passenger services continue to operate safely and reliably. The signalling contract therefore covers integration requirements designed to accommodate the new infrastructure without compromising existing railway operations. Once completed, NS6 station will contribute to future network expansion while also providing greater operational flexibility across the system.
Partnership with LTA Supports Singapore Rail Development
The latest award represents another milestone in Hitachi Rail’s collaboration with the Land Transport Authority (LTA). The company said its experience in signalling integration, system upgrades and rail modernisation programmes continues to support its focus on reliable and resilient railway operations as Singapore’s rail network grows. The signalling contract also reflects Hitachi Rail’s continued role in delivering the technical works required to integrate new stations into an established railway environment.
Alfredo DRAGO, Head of APAC Region SRS, Hitachi Rail, said, “The addition of NS3A and NS6 will play an important role in supporting Singapore’s growing transportation needs. Our team focused on developing a plan designed to minimize disruption to existing operations. By leveraging our proven SELTRAC™ CBTC technology and our extensive local delivery experience, we will seamlessly integrate these new stations into the network while maintaining the high levels of reliability passengers expect every day.”
