Saudi Rail Launches Five Logistics Routes for Trade Growth

Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has unveiled five logistics routes within its freight operations, marking a fresh step in its broader strategy to strengthen supply chain performance and deepen integration across multiple modes of transport. The introduction of these five logistics routes aligns with efforts to facilitate regional and global trade flows while advancing the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. It also reflects the ambitions of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to position the Kingdom as a leading global logistics hub amid ongoing shifts in international supply chains.

The newly introduced five logistics routes establish a connected logistics framework that links Arabian Gulf ports with central and northern parts of Saudi Arabia, while also extending toward Red Sea ports and northern regions. This system operates through a multi-modal transport network combining rail and road infrastructure, helping to streamline cargo movement and improve the overall efficiency of goods transportation across different corridors. By enabling smoother transitions between transport modes, the initiative enhances supply chain fluidity and ensures more reliable cargo handling.

SAR’s CEO Bashar Al-Malik affirmed that the rapid development witnessed in the railway sector comes with the support and attention of the wise leadership and under the follow-up of the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of SAR’s Board of Directors, Saleh Al-Jasser, who attaches great importance to this sector for its role as an enabler of various national sectors. He further noted that these corridors are part of an  integrated package of logistics solutions that advances supply chain efficiency and reliability under various conditions. Based on integration between different transport modes and coordination with relevant authorities, these corridors will work to improve cargo flow fluidity and enhance logistics operations efficiency.

The five logistics routes are designed to handle diverse cargo types while reinforcing national supply chains and supporting key industries such as petrochemicals and mining. They also play a role in facilitating exports and imports, alongside offering transit solutions for regional markets. The network serves a broad customer base, including major industrial companies, mining firms, and the largest maritime shipping lines, by delivering dependable transport services that reduce transit times and improve operational performance. Operations are coordinated through an integrated system that includes the Riyadh Dry Port and SAR freight yards in Dammam, Jubail, Ras Al-Khair, Al-Kharj, Hail, and Qurayyat, ensuring seamless connections with Arabian Gulf and Red Sea ports. The initiative is expected to cut thousands of truck journeys, improve road safety, lower carbon emissions, and further strengthen the Kingdom’s position in global trade flows.
