In the last decade, there has been a paradigm shift in the way people have started perceiving technology. All thanks to the Internet which has found a place in every household, it would be only apt to say that the world has become smaller and the aspirations have become bigger by the day. The only way to sustain this pattern is by making sure that we become a lot more efficient. The concept of smart cities bridges that gap between our aspirations and the advancements which we are longing to have. In other words, enhancing an individual’s quality of life through smart technology is the top priority of any smart city today. So be it building world-class, tech-savvy infrastructure to providing seamless transportation facilities, the concept of smart cities is changing the world and is here to stay. This is the city that is responsive to its citizens’ needs and fulfills them with the utmost ease.

Transportation facilities create a long-lasting impact on the people who are experiencing them and their scope within the smart cities gets quadrupled due to their increased inclination towards IoT and digitization.

The usage

Smart city transport tends to use wireless, electronic and internet technologies to make the user experience smarter, safer and faster from one point of the city to another. Moreover, it also helps the authorities to have greater control over the traffic flows.

The idea of a smart city is unimaginable without having smart transport in place

It will be only fair to say that the dominance of smart transport can be ascertained by the fact that it is one of the most significant aspects that helps a city get a smart tag.

The traits of a smart city and smart transport have to be similar because the end goal of both the entities is to

  • Improve the quality of life

  • Reduce pollution

  • Improve monitoring & surveillance

  • Have an organized traffic flow

Numbers that help enhance the quality of life

Application of IoT in transport creates massive data streams that need to be tamed, analyzed and harnessed to create smart cities. If we look at the total picture, the quality of life of people in smart cities can be enhanced with the help of efficient use of such data which keeps flowing.

Smart city technology clubbed with interconnected infrastructure and automated transport system paves the way for cleaner, affordable and safer smart cities.

Why is smart transport gaining such a huge fan base?

Smart city transport is the first step to make a city smart. However, implementing it fully on a large scale might pose immediate problems. So, to curb this, a well-defined phase-wise implementation of smart transportation is the need of the hour. Most of the smart cities have started the phase-wise execution of transport solutions which have been adopted well by the citizens and have also given out some tangible results such as non-congestion and reduction in the carbon footprint.
