RZD shows its results for October 2016

Russian Railways RZD has announced its results concerning passenger and freight transport in October 2016 compared to the same period last year. The situation is stable. The company registered mostly increases and a slight decline of freight loading volumes in last month.


According to the latest figures, the infrastructure owned by Russian Railways transported 92.4 million passengers in October 2016, 4.4% more than in October 2015. Suburban passengers rose 4.8% to 85.1 million, while long-distance passenger numbers were down 0.4% to 7.3 million.


Between January and October 2016, total passenger numbers amounted to 858.1, an increase of 0.2% compared to January-October 2015. Long-distance passenger numbers were up 3.9% to 86.5 milllion, while suburban passengers were down 0.2% to 771.6 million.


Passenger turnover amounted to almost 9 billion passenger-kilometres in October 2016, 0.5% more than in October 2015. Passenger turnover on long-distance services amounted to 6.3 billion passenger-km in October 2015, an increase of 0.6%, while suburban passenger numbers increased 0.4% to 2.7 billion passenger-km.


Since the beginning of 2016, passenger turnover on the Russian Railways’ network increased by 4.1% compared to last year and amounted to 107.4 billion passenger-kilometres. Long-distance passenger turnover between January and October amounted to 81.4 billion passenger-km, a rise of 5.6%, while suburban turnover was 26 billion passenger-km, a decline of 0.5%.


Situation is slightly different with a freight loading volumes on the rail network owned by RZD. It amounted to 103.4 million tons in October 2016 which is 3.3% less than during October 2015.


However freight turnover increased compared to October 2015 by 1.8% and in October 2016 amounted to 202.5 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs increased by 2% in October 2016 and amounted to 259.6 billion ton-kilometres.


According to the latest figures, loading volumes from January to October 2016 amounted to 1.015 billion tons, 0.8% more than during the same period of 2015.


Freight turnover since the beginning of 2016 totalled 1,934.4 billion tariff ton-kilometres, an increase of 1.5%, while freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs amounted to 2,474.8 billion ton-km, up 1.3%.
