Launch Of Bim Academy: Maha – Metro Rail Corporation Ltd

On the occasion of its Foundation day, Nagpur metro project has launched the BIM academy on 17th Feb 17.                    


MAHA-METRO BIM Academy, a joint collaboration of Maha Metro and Bentley Institute (Bentley) was inaugurated at Chitnavis centre, Nagpur. Padmashri Dr. Deepak Phatak, Professor, IIT Bombay had presided over the function. The event was attended by Hon’ble Shri Brijesh Dixit, MD MAHA-METRO, Mr. Vinayak Trivedi, Global Head, Bentley Institute, Mr. Kaushik Chakraborty, Vice President & regional Executive, Bentley Systems and Directors and IT heads of other metro projects across the country. The event was also attended by professional from different IT companies.

Vinayak Trivedi, Global Head of Bentley Institute said: “We are thankful to Mr. Brijesh Dixit in helping us together launch BIM Academy that will set the path for more such Academies within other Metros”.

During the various sessions in the event, Global Technology experts like Mr. David Robertson, Director of BIM advancement academy and Mr. Dejan Papic, BIM Manager, Bentley Institute (from London BIM Academy) presented the best practices from other global rail projects & share their experience on use of BIM in metro projects in UK and other countries & project its application of same in Indian Metro projects.

In line with the global best practices, MAHA-METRO Rail Corporation has adopted Bentley’s 5D BIM digital platform to manage the project and mitigate project challenges majorly leading to time & cost overruns. BIM being the integral part of overall 5DBIM technology, the benefits of BIM is not only available during construction, but more significantly in the operation & maintenance phase of Metro Projects. This is a pioneering approach, one of its kinds which is happening for the first time in metro projects in India.

5D BIM implementation work for Nagpur metro project is in the final stage of completion and is planned to be operational by next month.In order to nurture and train the manpower to enable the ecosystem to extract the benefits of BIM for the metro projects, a world class facility – the BIM academy is being established under the umbrella of MAHA-METRO. This will bring together the best practices of BIM & Asset information Management System.

Currently the two projects Nagpur Metro and Pune metro will directly benefit from this academy. However the primary purpose of this academy shall be to impart the knowledge and know-how to channel partners like DDC, GC, Consultants, Contractors, Stake-holders, IT industries & other metro organizations in India, which will pave the way for all upcoming metros in India to adopt the state of art BIM technology.

MAHA-METRO BIM Academy a collaboration of MAHA-METRO & Bentley Institute will be located in the Nagpur metro office and will functional by 5th of June2017.
