Vietnam is encouraging greater international participation in its logistics sector, with Gia Binh airport emerging as a key focus of future infrastructure development. During a meeting in Hanoi on 6th July 2026, Vietnam’s Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang invited Yamato Holdings, one of Japan’s leading logistics groups, to examine investment opportunities in warehousing and cargo transport infrastructure at Gia Binh International Airport.
The minister welcomed Nagao Yutaka, Representative Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yamato Holding, and acknowledged the company’s contributions to Vietnam’s socio-economic development since establishing its local subsidiary in 2015.
As Vietnam advances plans for Gia Binh airport, the government sees the project as an important component of its long-term logistics strategy. Minister Quang also reaffirmed the country’s objective of developing Gia Binh International Airport into a leading regional air cargo hub and encouraged Yamato to explore operational cooperation with Vietnamese partners once the airport becomes operational.
AI Collaboration and Logistics Development Highlighted
Alongside discussions on Gia Binh airport, Minister Quang welcomed Yamato’s planned cooperation with FPT Corporation to establish an artificial intelligence (AI) laboratory in Vietnam. The proposed facility is intended to research and apply AI and big data in supply chain management, transport coordination and the development of specialised logistics services for high-tech industries, particularly the semiconductor sector, which Vietnam has identified as a strategic priority.
Pointing to Vietnam’s population of 100 million and one of the world’s fastest-growing e-commerce markets, the minister noted the significant opportunities available for the logistics industry. He encouraged Yamato to broaden its investment footprint by developing large-scale logistics centres, financial hubs and modern logistics infrastructure across Vietnam’s key economic regions.
In addition, Quang suggested that the company prioritise the recruitment of disciplined and highly skilled Vietnamese workers for roles throughout its global operations. He also affirmed that the Ministry of Public Security will continue supporting Yamato by maintaining a transparent and favourable investment environment while creating the necessary conditions for the company to operate safely, efficiently and in full compliance with Vietnamese law.
Yamato Signals Continued Interest in Vietnam
Concluding the discussions related to Gia Binh airport and wider cooperation opportunities, Nagao Yutaka expressed his appreciation for the meeting and spoke positively about Vietnam’s future prospects. He said he is impressed by Vietnam’s development potential and affirmed that the company would continue to study and implement major cooperation projects, contributing to stronger bilateral ties between Vietnam and Japan.
