CAM to launch Macao Airport’s terminal south extension project

AI Summary

Macau International Airport Company (CAM) has announced plans to begin works on the passenger terminal building south extension design and build project early next year in China.

CAM is the operator of Macau International Airport. It said that design works have already started for the southern extension of the passenger terminal in preparation for construction of the three-level building next year.

The project will cover 5,700m², comprising an extension of three levels from the existing passenger terminal building to bring the total floor area to 17,100m².

The extension plan will include architectural and structural works, evaluation and maintenance (E&M), with additional departure hall, offices, and three more loading bridges.

Once operational, the project will boost the passenger terminal building’s capacity to ten million people per annum.

CAM said that the company will use building information modelling (BIM) for the southern extension of the passenger terminal.

According to CAM, BIM technology is capable of accelerating project completion and solves many engineering problems by turning 2D drawings into 3D models.

Construction of the passenger terminal building north extension project started earlier this year. CAM also used BIM technology for this expansion.

The facility will boost the terminal building floor space to 14,000m², featuring a total of five passenger loading bridges.

In addition, the overall design capacity of the passenger terminal building increased from six million passengers per annum to 7.8 million.
