It is all about automation these days and modern parking systems are no different. The most looked up to innovation which has taken place in transport technology is the up-scaling of the parking landscape.

The reason we say so is because as the population has increased so has the number of vehicles. Come to think of it, there are a few cities that have started to face a lot of traffic burden which is predominantly caused due to unavailability of space. Authorities have realized that it is not about creating a new parking space to cater to the increase in vehicles but it makes more sense to do changes within the existing space that is available.

A step ahead

The future of smart parking is going to be affected considerably with the introduction of Automated Vehicles. Several cities around the world are already trying their hand at specialized AV parking lots as well as robotic parking valets. To top it, one might get to see the idea of self-park cars also taking shape. It would help to keep congestion in check as riders could be dropped off in front of their destination and the car would park itself and hence minimize the time spent taking up space on the road. It is estimated that parking garages that are exclusively designed for self-parking cars will take up 60% less space than the conventional ones. This is because the cars can be parked much closer to each other and there is no need for elevators or stairs.

Technology continues to enhance the parking topography

Smart cities around the world have started to recognize the importance of smart parking in the existing infrastructure. Sensor technology continues to be at the forefront in making the smart parking’s exclusive. Moreover, there is a wide variety of other technology innovations that have also a huge role to play in making these parking’s a must for the future. These innovations mostly include up-gradation done in cameras, wireless communications, data analytics, and smart parking meters.

Predictive analysis

The biggest boon of technology is not only towards the contribution of physical infrastructure but also in predicting the future as well. The data analytics help authorities understand how the equipment is faring and what more needs to be done to make the entire process seamless for the people. Being future-ready is what IoT and other related digital infrastructure offer the authorities who in turn make amendments as required.

On-Street Parking is given due importance

Another area which is given due importance is on-street parking. Smart parking systems ensure that there is no tampering with the existing area where the parking is supposed to happen such as the widening of space. Instead, what it does is make the entire parking process user-friendly where the riders can book the space in advance through their app. Once the booking is done for the stipulated time, the rider just needs to go to the spot and park the vehicle. This process is simple and the best part is that it takes off the burden of traffic congestion quite significantly.
