The Climate Summit's Time to Act message is to travel on one of Transfesa Logistics locomotives

Transfesa Logistics has vinyl wrapped one of its locomotives with the #TimetoAct message from the COP25 Climate Summit, together with the SDO13 “Action for the Climate”. The company is thus helping to support this important global meeting being hosted by Madrid up to 13 December. The locomotive will take the message on its freight routes all over Spain, including cities such as Valencia this Wednesday, and Seville this Thursday.

Bernd Hullerum, CEO of this transport and logistics services company, states that “Transfesa Logistics is completely in line with the climate summit. We aim to foster awareness of the need for all of us to do what we can to contribute to a more sustainable world and to reduce our impact on the environment”.

By taking this action, Transfesa Logistics wants to stress the importance of rail freight, which is key to a sustainable future because it emits 9 times less CO2 than the equivalent by road, a great environmental advantage.

Julián Gacimartín, director of Rail Services for the company, considers that “it is more necessary than ever before to promote intermodal transport and to increase the share of rail freight wherever possible in order to reduce the impact of the transport sector on the environment. Industry, infrastructure and rail operators and the government should all work together to transfer freight from roads to rail, setting up intermodal goods traffic in which rail freight is the backbone”.

As a founder partner of the Global Pact, Transfesa Logistics is contributing to dissemination of the SDOs, in this case placing special focus on SDO13 with which one of its main activities—rail transport—is closely aligned.

This initiative goes together with the recent visit to Madrid and Barcelona of “Noah’s Train”, the climate ambassador, a campaign of the Rail Freight Forward (RFF) coalition to which Transfesa Logistics belongs. Its aim is to create awareness of the need to shift rail freight from the current figure of 18% of modal goods transport to 30% by 2030.

According to the RFF, this percentage would prevent the emission of 290 million tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere over the coming decade.

It comprises 1,350 highly-qualified professionals and bases its differential strategy on profound knowledge of the rail sector. It is currently the leading private rail operator in Spain.
