Swissport officially opened its new state-of-the-art Swissport Auckland Cargo Centre, which is a big step forward in its plan to develop in the Asia-Pacific region. The new facility is at Auckland Airport and has direct airside access via Checkpoint Delta. It greatly improves the company’s cargo handling footprint in New Zealand and the surrounding area.
The Swissport Auckland Cargo Centre spans 8,500 square meters and establishes a new standard for operating efficiency. It has weather-protected areas for receiving and sending packages, as well as the airport’s biggest X-ray equipment for inspecting goods. The terminal is built to speed up the process of moving goods by giving direct access to the airport. This leads to quicker turnaround times and more reliable service.
“This is a major step for Swissport in New Zealand,” said Joel Greig, General Manager of Cargo Operations for New Zealand and Australia. “We are bringing our global expertise to Auckland and are ready to deliver world-class service to our airline and freight forwarding customers.”
The Swissport Auckland Cargo Centre is completely legal as a Customs Controlled Area and has been given the go light by New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) as a Transitional Facility. This allows for secure and compliant handling, inspection, and clearance of both import and export shipments. The port also has a lot of cold storage space that can hold both palletised and ULD goods. This includes fragile items like pharmaceuticals, seafood, fresh produce, and meat, which are very important for New Zealand’s economy, which relies heavily on exports.
Swissport is focused on safety, transparency, and innovation. They use advanced digital technologies and 46 CCTV cameras to keep an eye on cargo in real time and see everything from start to finish. The company’s investment in the Swissport Auckland Cargo Centre is part of a larger effort to grow its air cargo infrastructure throughout the Asia-Pacific region, where it currently operates operations in South Korea, Japan, and Australia.
As e-commerce and trade increase in Asia and Africa, the need for air freight throughout the world is also growing. The Swissport Auckland Cargo Centre is projected to be very important for the flow of cargo in the area.
