SITA introduces management technology at Indonesian airports

Indonesian airport operator PT Angkasa Pura 1 (Persero) has deployed common-use passenger technology from the air transport IT firm SITA.

The company has supplied AirportConnect Open technology, along with its passenger flow monitoring technology and local departure control system to PT Angkasa Pura 1’s 13 airports. Its platform is being deployed in phases using virtualisation technology.

The contract was awarded to SITA by PT Angkasa Pura Supports, a subsidiary of PT Angkasa Pura 1, and is expected to support growth and modernise the country’s airports, allowing them to operate to international standards.

“Our goal is to run world-class airports by improving passenger experience.”

Angkasa Pura 1 CEO Tommy Soetomo said: “Our goal is to run world-class airports by improving passenger experience and we need a reliable platform with international exposure to achieve this as quickly as possible.

“We have set an aggressive timeline to deploy the technology in all of our airports within a year. This will allow us to cater for the expected doubling of passenger numbers in Indonesia over the next five years.”

Angkasa Pura Supports CEO Edyana Paramitasari said: “As part of the project, SITA has worked with our IT team to implement our electronic passenger service charge (ePSC) into its passenger flow monitoring system and ensured common-use certification on its global platform.”

The integration of the ePSC system with SITA Airport iTrack system is said to allow the airport operator to monitor the number of passengers from check-in to boarding.

The technology will also result in accurate revenue collection, quicker check-in and passenger processing, as well as a better experience at the airports.

Using SITA’s AirportConnect Open, any airline can use any agent desk, gate position or self-service kiosk for passenger check-in and bag drop, which can lead to a better passenger experience.

SITA noted that AirportConnect Open will maximise the use of Indonesia’s existing airport infrastructure, while enhancing the airports’ attractiveness to leading international airlines, due to the simple and efficient integration of their operations.

SITA Asia Pacific president Ilya Gutlin said: “The deployment of our platform at these 13 airports confirms SITA’s position at the heart of Indonesia’s air transport industry.

“We are also providing enhanced air-to-ground communications across the country, which will support increased safety and efficiency of air traffic operations.

“Now with all 13 of these airports using SITA AirportConnect Open, SITA is working together with the Indonesian authorities to ensure that the airports meet world-class standards, while helping to power growth in Indonesian aviation.”
